Marco Barrantes 

Marco Barrantes holds a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and City Planning from UC Berkeley and a BA in Ecology, Culture, and Sustainable Communities. He is also a certified Arborist,  Green Roof Professional, and has been a certified Permaculture Designer since 1997. In 2004 he published Feed Your City: Planning for Urban Food Systems and is now  updating and re-publishing it. In 2012, he opened a new public office, nursery, and materials yard known as "The Shed," on Lincoln Ave. and Washington Blvd., Pasadena.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Bill Kellogg 

Dr Kellogg joined the faculty at Cal Poly in 1983. Born and raised in Southern California, he graduated with both his B.S. (Crop Science) and M.S. (General Agriculture) Degrees from Cal Poly, while earning his Ph.D. at Colorado State University. As a high school student, Dr. Kellogg was an active member of the Future Farmers of America. At Cal Poly his primary responsibility has been teaching the course "Teaching Methods in Agricultural Mechanics" and serving as Department Head. He assists with the instruction of "Advanced Agriculture Mechanics” for the BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department.

 

 

 

 

 

David King 

With over 50 years of gardening experience under his fingernails, David King teaches and writes on garden topics with an emphasis on growing food in the Mediterranean climate of Los Angeles, CA. King is the Garden Master and director of The Learning Garden on the grounds of Venice High School, a large and very successful garden program that joins the community with high school efforts. In a portion of the garden he holds classes for UCLA Extension and UC Master Gardeners, including Modern Backyard Food Production, Plant Propagation for Gardeners, Sustainability Practices in Home Gardens, Soils and Fertilizers, and Container Gardening. King's book, Growing Food in Southern California, is expected to hit the shelves this coming spring, the first book on growing entirely organic food with non-hybrid plants.

 

 

Steve Williams 

Stephen Williams received his horticultural training at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. He honed his skills at Descanso and Huntington Botanical Gardens where his position as garden staff and plant propagator/nursery manager for ten years presented horticultural challenges on an international scale. Stephen has been affiliated with UCCE Master Gardeners since 1996, and currently is an Orange County member, where he is active with the speaker’s bureau. Stephen is Professor of Horticulture at Mt. San Antonio College where he has been teaching free, weekly Home Gardening classes to 100 adults for 10 years, stressing sustainability. He is a frequent speaker on various garden topics and has been a certified presenter of water conservation and gardening lectures for the Metropolitan Water District and city water agencies throughout Southern California for 6 years.
